House Maj Ldr: House To Vote On Bipart Infra Bill Next Monday (27th)

US

Sarah Ferris at Politico tweets comments from House majority leader Steny Hoyer (D-MD) on plans to vote for the bipartisan infrastructure bill passed by the Senate next week:

  • "Hoyer confirms leadership plan to vote on Senate-passed infrastructure bill next week: "We will be putting on the floor on the 27th, that's next Monday, the bipartisan infrastructure bill." BUT he stresses its one of two parts of Biden's agenda. "I expect both to pass the House of Representatives, and I expect both to pass in the relatively near future." But doesn't say exactly when.
  • "Dems' reconciliation bill won't be ready for a vote next week. And Hoyer acknowledges that $3.5T plan unlikely to be ready: "It may well be the case that it's not ready for next week.. but we're going to do it as soon as we possibly can, as soon as it's ready. Also, some real talk: "I don't think anybody knows what 'reconciliation' is."
  • "Asked about progressives' threat to tank the Senate deal: "I hope that every Democrat votes for both bills." "I don't agree with the judgement of those who believe that it would somehow compel the moderate wing of the caucus to be more supportive." Hoyer adds that House vote on the Senate infra bill might slip one day past the moderates' "deadline" depending on floor timing. (House will vote late on the 27th because it's a fly-in) "It may be the 27th, it may be the morning of the 28th, depending on how the debate goes."
