Yahya Sarea, a spox for the Houthis in Yemen, has claimed in a televised speech that "We will target any ships heading to Israeli ports in the Mediterranean Sea in any area we are able to reach,". The initial reports on Sarea's comments caused some commotion, with the wires stating that the 'Houthis say they would attack ships in the Mediterranean Sea', implying that the Houthis may have obtained weaponry allowing them to strike huge distances into the Med. However, it seems that this is not the case.
- Sarea's comments, though, would suggest that the Houthis will target any ships in the Red Sea/Gulf of Aden/Indian Ocean area that they believe are travelling to Israeli ports. Previously, their strikes have been limited to container ships, largely those with links to Israel or its allies the US and UK.
