HU-GE 10Y Yield Spread Narrows to Lowest Since Feb 2022

  • Yields on 10Y bonds continue to slide following last week’s savings tax announcement and currently sit 12bps lower on the day. Worth noting the HU-GE 10y yield spread has narrowed further to lows last seen in Feb'22 (figure 1).
  • Today’s CPI data showed prices cooling to a lower-than-expected 21.5% y/y (Est: 22.3%), though the NBH are still widely expected to deliver another cut to the effective rate at this month’s rate setting meeting on June 20. Minister of Economic Development Marton Nagy said in an interview to local news site vg.hu that "Reaching single-digit inflation by the end of the year could mean that central bank interest rates could also be single-digit by the spring of 2024."
