HUNGARY: Finance Minister Outlines Main “Pillars” of 2025 Budget

  • Foreign minister Peter Szijjarto said on Monday that "the pro-war mainstream in Washington and Brussels have launched a final, bitter attempt against the new reality," MTI report. Referring to an upcoming meeting of EU foreign ministers in Brussels, the first since the US election, Szijjarto said "it will be a tough fight; me must stop efforts towards escalation in Brussels, too."
  • Meanwhile, Finance Minister Mihaly Varga said in an interview with public radio on Sunday that the three "pillars" of the 2025 budget were boosting Hungarians' purchasing power, ensuring affordable housing and scaling up SMEs, MTI report. He added that the budget would lay the foundation for a growth-based, multi-year wage agreement that would raise the monthly minimum wage to HUF 400,000. The budget assumes 3.4pc GDP growth.
