HUNGARY: First Government Briefing After Summer Recess

  • News flow is limited today, with markets deliberating the implications of an interview by Economy Minister Marton Nagy to index yesterday. In that interview, the minister renewed calls on the central bank to provide stimulus – the latest sign of discontent between government officials and the NBH.
  • There are no data releases scheduled for today, with unemployment rate figures for July crossing tomorrow morning (Est: 4.3%; Prior: 4.2%). Focus then shifts to the NBH rate decision next Tuesday (Aug 27), where the central bank is generally expected to pause its easing cycle and keep rates unchanged at 6.75%.
