Hungary Minister Expects Recovery Funds to be Approved Dec 12

  • Tomorrow, the European Commission will discuss both cohesion funding and the recovery and resilience funding. They are seen as likely to withhold cohesion funding due to rule of law issues, but approve the recovery and resilience plan, which then goes onto the Council on Dec 12 for approval.
  • Reuters report that Hungary's government expects its recovery fund plan to be approved by EU finance ministers at an Ecofin meeting on Dec 12, its minister in charge of EU negotiations said on Tuesday.
  • Hungary's minister in charge of EU negotiations Tibor Navracsics said that he expects Hungary to receive all suspended EU funds next year. Asked if he saw potential for a last-minute deal with Brussels to avoid the suspension of funds he replied that he was "optimistic" and has "seen a lot."
