HUNGARY: Orban Meets Trump After Angering Allies With “Peace Mission”

HUNGARY
  • Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban travelled to Florida yesterday to meet Donald Trump in the latest stop on his “peace mission” on Ukraine. Orban posted a photo with the former US president at his Mar-a-Lago resort, captioning the post at “We discussed ways to make peace. The good news of the day: he’s going to solve it!”.
  • According to Bloomberg, ministers from a number of EU member states (Sweden, Finland, Poland, Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania) will skip informal meetings in Hungary to protest Orban’s freewheeling diplomacy.
  • Separately, Hungary hosts EU events related to its presidency. There are no major data releases scheduled for today, or for the entirety of next week. The NBH meet next on July 23.
