Hungary Plans to Increase Natgas Flows from Azerbaijan and Turkey

NATURAL GAS

Hungary is looking to increase purchases of natural gas from Azerbaijan and Turkey, according to its Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto via Interfax.

  • Purchasing more gas from Azerbaijan and Turkey will also raise the importance of transits via Bulgaria to deliver the natural gas.
  • "The expected cessation of natural gas transportation through Ukraine will significantly increase the importance of the Bulgarian-Serbian-Hungarian transport route,” Szijjarto is reported to have said.
  • Szijjarto said on Aug. 20 that Hungary would purchase 275 mcm of gas from Turkey in 2024. He had previously also said that Hungary wants to buy 2 bcm/y of gas from Azerbaijan.
