HUNGARY: Xi Expected to Sign Several Agreements During Budapest Visit

  • News flow is limited so far this morning, with local press focussing on Chinese President Xi Jinping’s visit to Hungary. The President will hold talks in Budapest today as part of his European trip and is expected to sign several agreements with the Hungarian government. He will leave on Friday.
  • In an op-ed published in the Magyar Nemzet newspaper yesterday, Xi wrote that Europe’s east provides a “helpful addition to China-Europe relations.” Today, Xi is due to sign more than a dozen agreements covering rail, road and energy projects. 
  • Budget balance data is due at 10:00BST/11:00CET. Looking ahead, CPI data tomorrow morning is the highlight of the week, where the headline figure is expected to edge higher from +3.6% Y/Y in March to +3.7% in April.
