IAEA Report Warns That Iran's Nuclear Program Is Progressing Rapidly

SECURITY

Iran continues to enrich uranium to near weapons grade levels, in breach of the terms of the lapsed 2015 Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action nuclear accords, according to an upcoming International Atomic Energy Agency quarterly report on Iran's nuclear programme.

  • IAEA: "Iran continues to breach restrictions on its nuclear activities imposed by 2015 nuclear deal."
  • IAEA: "Iran’s stock of enriched uranium is estimated to have grown by 87.1 kg since last quarterly report to 3,760.8 kg."
  • IAEA: "Iran’s enriched uranium stock includes an estimated 87.5 kg of uranium enriched to up to 60% purity, near weapons grade..."
  • Reuters reports that, "according to the IAEA’s definition, around 42 kg of uranium enriched to 60% purity is theoretically enough, if enriched further, to produce a nuclear bomb."
  • The IAEA report says that if a deal similar to the JCPOA were revived, the absence of monitoring equipment would have a significant degree of uncertainty in establishing a baseline of Iran’s activities.
