IEA Reportedly Set To Announce 120m Barrel Oil Release

ENERGY SECURITY

Quantum Commodity Intelligence, citing a source close to discussions, has reported that the International Energy Agency is set to announce that member states will coordinate the release of 120m barrels of oil from strategic oil reserves.

  • The announcement is expected to come at 12:30 ET/17:30 BST but there is no official press conference scheduled yet.
  • The announcement will come in the wake of the US decision to release 180m/b staggered over 180 days from the US strategic petroleum reserve.
  • An IEA statement released following Friday's meeting reads: 'The details of the new emergency stock release will be made public early next week. The agreement follows the previous action taken by IEA Member Countries, announced last month, to which they pledged a total of 62.7 million barrels.'
