Imminent Russia-Ukraine Ceasefire Talks Thrown Into Doubt

Negotiations between Russian and Ukrainian delegations may need to be postponed, according to Turkish presidential spokesman Ibrahim Kalin, as Moscow's demands are "unrealistic."

  • Kalin told CNN TÜRK that the talks could be delayed by a "day or two" as Russia stands by its unacceptable demands, such as "the recognition of Crimea and the disarmament of Ukraine."
  • Turkey remains in touch with negotiating teams and calls for a ceasefire and the creation of a humanitarian corridor. However, Kalin noted that "especially with the latest developments, there is not much hope."
  • President Erdogan's spokesman said Turkey was not planning to announce a package of sanctions against Russia as "there needs to be an actor who can talk to" Moscow.
  • Earlier on Tuesday, a source told TASS news agency that "the next round of Russian-Ukrainian talks is to take place tomorrow, March 2." But Ukrainian President Zelensky told Reuters and CNN that Russia must "stop the bombing" before meaningful talks can commence.
