FOREX: In the final trading day of 2018, there remains a holiday feel to markets
with the Swedish krona the only currency in G10 space that has moved more than a
third of a percent against the USD today. In fact the Swedish krona is the
strongest period over the whole holiday period and the only currency to move
more than 1% against USD since the close of Dec 21.
- The pound is the second strongest currency of the day. At the time of writing,
GBPUSD was at its highest level since Dec 10 after some press reports that
suggested the date the UK is set to leave the EU could be postponed past March
if MPs vote down May's deal in January.
- AUD has also risen just over 0.2% against USD following tweets from Trump
buoying sentiment that a trade deal between the US and China can be agreed.
- There could be potential for some USD strength today. There is a SOMA
redemption while banks' month-end models are pointing to strong USD positive
rebalancing flows.
