GILT SUMMARY: In the latest high profile intervention on the Brexit debate,
influential Metropolitan Police Commissioner Cressida Dick has warned that
public safety could be put at risk in the event of a no-deal scenario. Although
there will be limited market impact, the Met Commissioner's comments come at a
time of rising crime in London and will be seized upon by MPs seeking to
maintain a close relationship with the EU.
- The early morning gilt rally has largely reversed with yields now trading near
the highs of the day. Current yields: 2-year 0.745%, 10-year 1.283%, 30-year
1.802%.
- Inflation breakevens have traded flat this morning.
- The short sterling futures strip has steepened with whites/red flat to 0.5
ticks higher and greens/blues 0.5-1.5 ticks lower.
- Cable is on the back foot and equities have weakened, with speculation
mounting that the Boxing Day sales will disappoint expectations.
