OIL: India Crude Oil Imports Fell 3.1% in January: PPAC

India’s crude oil imports in January fell by 3.1% year on year to 20.8m tons but higher compared to 20.2m tons in December, according to provisional data from the oil ministry’s Petroleum Planning & Analysis Cell.

  • Total oil exports were up 13% year on year to 5.472m tons but 4.9% lower than in December.
  • Diesel exports rose by 37.8% year on year to 2.789m tons and up 12% m/m.
  • Gasoline exports rose 39.7% on the year to 1.362m tons but fall 7.5% from last month.
  • Data released earlier this month showed fuel consumption in India, the world's third-biggest oil importer and consumer, increased by 3.1% year-on-year in January to 20.49m metric tons but down from 20.73m tons in December.
  • India's gasoline consumption is expected to rise about 40kbpd to 950kbpd in 2025, but diesel demand is expected to hold steady, according to FGE.
