India Fuel Demand Falls in Jan Due to Extreme Cold

Sales of diesel from state refiners in India, who own over 90% of retail fuel outlets, fell 8.6% month on month in January. Travel demand reduced due to extreme cold in northern parts of the country according to Bloomberg.

  • Diesel sales -8.6% m/m to 6.68m tons, +19% higher y/y
  • Gasoline sales -5.1% m/m to 2.62m tons, +17.6% y/y
  • Jet fuel sales +1.2% m/m to ~615k tons, +45% y/y
  • LPG sales -3.2% m/m to 2.64m tons, +0.2% y/y
