Indian LNG Imports Expected to Rise as Costs Fall

LNG

India's LNG imports are set to recover as global prices ease according to the country’s biggest gas importer Petronet LNG.

  • India wants to raise the share of gas in its energy mix to 15% by 2030 from 6.2% at present. Last years price spike dented its growth for LNG imports.
  • "Now the export cargoes are hovering at $17 (million British thermal units). We definitely expect that we will get the movement of more cargoes coming to our country." Petronet said.
  • Due to weaker demand, Petronet operated its 17.5 million tonnes a year Dahej LNG terminal on the west coast at 68% capacity in the December quarter. The capacity use has improved to 81% and is expected to rise further as global prices ease.
