India's oil products demand grew 3.9% in 2024 to 5.1m b/d, driven by strong demand for transport fuels and higher consumption from the infrastructure and household sectors, Platts said.

  • Jet fuel saw the highest growth among all petroleum products, up 9.2%, with gasoline (+8.1%) and LPG (+7.1%) demand also increasing.
  • Rapid growth in automobile sales, increasing by an average of 9%, contributed significantly to gasoline demand growth.
  • Diesel accounted for about 38% of total products consumption, highlighting its critical role in powering India's transport, logistics, and agriculture sectors, which remain vital to economic activity.
  • India's oil demand is expected to grow at 3.2% in 2025 driven primarily by growth in diesel and petrol, Platts reported.
  • India is projected to lead global oil demand growth, reinforcing its position as a global energy powerhouse.
