INDIA: Industrial Production the Slowest in Four Months.

  • India’s statistics office released the December industrial production numbers yesterday with production rising much less than expected.
  • Industrial production for December was up +3.2% YoY, missing estimates of +3.7% YoY, and significantly down from +5.0% YoY in November.
  • This represented the slowest expansion in four months with the manufacturing sector the main drag, expanding just +3.0% YoY (from +5.5%).
  • The decline may be a temporary blip (depending on the fortunes for manufacturing) as other sectors such as consumer durables output, electricity generation and mining showed improvements.
