Inflation Dominates As Biden Tries To Reframe '24 As Foreign Policy Election

US

A new survey from the Economist/YouGov has found that inflation remains the most important issue for voters, despite concerns over the war in the Middle East, and President Biden's call for America to do more to aid embattled democracies around the world.

  • YouGov reports that, according to a poll conducted just before Hamas attacked Israel..., the issue top of mind for the most Americans was inflation and prices. It was named by 23% of Americans as the most important issue for them... That didn't change in the latest poll... despite the outbreak of war in the Middle East. Inflation and prices remain the number 1 issue for 20% of Americans, with no other issue above 11%..."
  • The survey will be of deep concern to the White House and follows a survey from Morning Consult and the Wall Street Journal released last week which found that, “Roughly 3 in 4 swing-state voters said the country’s economy is headed down the wrong track and they are more likely than not to say their personal financial situation was better off under Trump than it is under Biden.”
