Collaboration between Latin American countries and infrastructure planning are important for boosting the regions LNG exports, according to Argus.

  • The region has an LNG export potential of around 100m mtpa from Mexico, Argentina, Trinidad & Tobago, and Guyana, Sarah Bairstow, CCO at Mexico Pacific said at CERAWeek.
  • Moreover, support from Argentina’s government is essential to develop LNG projects from its Vaca Muerta shale play, with YPF, Petronas, and Tecpetrol already showing interest.
  • Bairstow added that the US government’s pause on new LNG export licenses is an opportunity for the region as customers look more broadly.
