US DATA: Initial unemployment claims were below expectations in the 
Dec 15 employment survey wk, +8k to 214k vs 225k expected and 225k in 
the Nov 17 survey wk. Claims were unrev at 206k in Dec 8 wk. 
- NSA claims -9,766 to 251,773 in the current wk, below the 287,396 
level a year ago. The drop was smaller than the 18,991 decrease that 
seasonal factors expected. 
- The 4-wk moving avg -2,750 to 222,000 in the Dec 15 wk and +3,250 
from the avg in the Nov 17 wk. The avg would fall next week if there is 
no change from this week's headline figure as the 235k level in Nov 24 
week rolls out.
- Continuing claims +27,000 to 1.688m in the Dec 8 wk, while the 4-wk 
avg +6,750 to 1.673m. The insured rate of unemployment was 1.2%, 
unchanged from the previous week.
- Claims in California +922, showing some impact from the wildfires. 
- Claims were not estimated for any states.
