Interior Ministry Targeted by Attack on Sunday

  • Turkey’s Interior Ministry building was targeted by a suicide bomb attack on Sunday, the day the nation’s parliament was scheduled to begin its new legislative year, Bloomberg report. According to ANF, a pro-Kurdish news agency based in the Netherlands, the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) claimed responsibility.
  • Turkey’s manufacturing PMI rose to 49.6 in September from 49.0 in August, data released this morning shows. New Orders rose to 47.6 from 46.3, marking the third consecutive month of contraction.
  • The crude oil pipeline running from Iraq’s Kurdistan region to Turkey will be ready to resume operations this week, Turkey’s Energy Minister said as per Bloomberg. The closure has cut off nearly half a million barrels of crude from global markets.
  • Looking ahead, CPI data is the key release of the week tomorrow morning. According to the median of the Bloomberg survey, the headline figure will likely rise from 58.94% y/y in August to 61.60% in September.
