Iran Nuclear Chief Suggests JCPOA Revival Still Possible

Abas Aslani at the Center for Middle East Strategic Studies has reported that Mohammad Eslami, head of Iran's Atomic Energy Organization said today after talks with Omani officials that, “interest has been shown," in reviving nuclear talks and, "coordination is expected to be done after new year holidays.”

  • Comes as Israel's Prime Minister-delegate Benjamin Netanyahu says that his new cabinet will continue to work on eliminating Iran's nuclear program ahead of taking office tomorrow.
  • A revival of talks is seen as unlikely with top US officials conceding that Iran's ongoing suppression of protests and support for Russia has extinguished much of the political will within the Biden administration for diplomacy within the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action format.
