Irish FM: More Optimism Now Than A Few Weeks Ago On UK-EU FTA

Speaking to the Senate's Foreign Affairs Committee Ireland's Foreign Minister Simon Coveney has said that there is 'more optimism now than a few weeks ago' regarding the prospect of a deal on a EU-UK FTA once the UK leaves the transition period at the end of the year (although he does not specify where this optimism is coming from).

  • Should be noted, though, that earlier in his comments to the committee, Coveney also said that intensive 'tunnel talks' between the EU and UK negotiating teams can not start until the UK changes its stance on state aid.
