US Central Command (CENTCOM), responsible for US military operations in the Middle East, has confirmed that F-16 fighter jets from the Spangdahlem Air Base in Germany have arrived in its area of operations. Comes amid increasing expectations in the region that Israel is close to launching strikes on Iranian sites in retaliation to the 1 October ballistic missile barrage launched against Israel by Tehran in retaliation to the killing of Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah.
- NYT reported late on 24 Oct that "Four Iranian officials said in telephone interviews this week that the supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, has ordered the military to devise multiple military plans for responding to an Israeli attack. The scope of any Iranian retaliation, they said, will largely depend on the severity of Israel’s attacks. [...]. If Israeli strikes [...] inflict widespread damage and high casualties, they said, Iran will retaliate. But if Israel limits its attack to a few military bases and warehouses storing missiles and drones, Iran might well do nothing."
- An Israeli strike on Iran over the weekend could limit the (already slim) prospect that significant progress is made in talks in Doha looking to restart indirect discussions between Israel and Hamas on a Gaza ceasefire-for-hostages deal.
