Israeli Officials To Visit US Amid Deepening Iran Nuclear Crisis

SECURITY

Axios has reported that two key Israeli security officials will visit Washington next week amid concerns over the rapid progression of Iran's nuclear programme.

  • Axios writes that Israeli Minister for Strategic Affairs Ron Dermer and national security adviser Tzachi Hanegbi, two prominent Iran hawks leading Israel's Iran policy, are expected to meet White House national security adviser Jake Sullivan, Secretary of State Tony Blinken, and other senior US officials.
  • The news comes as the International Atomic Energy Agency and US intelligence officials state significant concern over Iran's nuclear programme.
  • Undersecretary of defense for policy Colin Kahl, said in testimony before Congress yesterday, that Iran's "nuclear progress" has been "remarkable," warning that Iran could now likely produce a nuclear weapon within 12 days - a breakout time which was set at one-year under the terms of the lapsed Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action Nuclear accord.
