Italy Road Fuel Increase but French Sales Fall in May

Oil product consumption of gasoline and diesel in Italy increased in May ahead of pre covid levels while France road fuel sales dropped in the month.

  • Total oil product sales in Italy increased 1.4% yr/yr to 4.53m tons in May but below 4.62m tons in May 2019 according to ministry data.
  • Consumption of LPG and jet fuel were below May 2019 levels with jet fuel still lagging by about 11.6%.
  • French oil product sales fell by 1.2% yr/yr to 4.54m tons in May with a decline in road fuels by 4.4% but a +9.6% increase in Jet fuel sales. An 8% decline in diesel offset a 5.4% increase in gasoline according to UFIP Energies et Mobilites.
