Italy’s New LNG Terminal Operational by March 2025: Reuters

Italy’s Snam said July 12 that it expects a new LNG terminal to become operational by March 2025, allowing for diversification of its energy supplies, Reuters said.

  • The FSRU in the Adriatic Sea will have an annual regasification capacity of 5 bcm, taking Italy’s total capacity to 28 bcm, or 45% of the country’s gas demand in 2023.
  • An additional FSRU in Europe would be a further move for the continent’s diversification of gas supplies, reducing infrastructure bottlenecks which prevent losses in pipeline gas flows from being compensated by increased LNG imports.
