Italy’s PV Capacity Climbs to 32GW in 1Q24

Italian PV capacity increased to 32GW at the end of 1Q24, with about 1.7GW of new PV connected to the grid at the end of the quarter, according to Italian solar association Italia Solare.

  • 32%, or about 547MW is attributable to the residential sector, with 35%, or 595MW owed to C&I sector and the remaining 579MW related to utility-scale plants of more than 1MW.
  • Compared to Q1 2023, the connected power attributable to the residential sector decreased by 15%, C&I increased by 106% and the power attributable to the utility-scale sector increased by 373%.
  • The utility rise was driven by the connections of 8 plants with a power greater than 10MW.
  • Over October 2023-March 2024, plants larger than 10MW were connected every month, for a total of 622MW over the six months.
