Jan & Feb China Diesel and Gasoline Exports Increase Yr/Yr

China’s diesel and gasoline exports increased year on year at the start of 2023 as domestic diesel demand eased during the Lunar New Year holiday and refiners used their export quotas.

  • China exported a combined 4.54m tons (574kbpd) of diesel during January and February, compared with just 420k tons a year earlier according to Customs General Administration Data released over the weekend. Jan exports were 2.39m tons and Feb were 2.15m tons.
  • Gasoline exports for the first two months of the year increased to 2.27m tons compared to 2.08m tons in Jan and Feb 2022. Jan exports were 1.24m tons and Feb were 1.03m tons.
  • Fuel exports surge late last year after China increased export quotas in an attempt to revive the nation’s economy. Diesel exports are expected to drop by 80% in March as domestic demand rebounds and some refiners conduct maintenance, according to OilChem.
