January EU Gas Demand Showed Signs of Recovery

European natural gas consumption rose by 12% year on year in January, amid strong gas use in the industrial sector and colder weather, IEA analyst, Greg Molnar said.

  • This marks the strongest growth rate since May 2021.
  • Rescom natural gas demand rose by around 11% year on year, while power sector gas burn increased by close to 4% on the year.
  • ICIS analyst Tom Marzec-Manser said EU gas demand rose by 11% year on year in January but remained 14% below the 2017-2021 average.
