CHINA: January saw Chinese domestic investors park cash in 973 foreign firms in
137 countries, with investments totalling $9.19 billion, down 86.78% y/y, data
released by the Ministry of Commerce on Thursday showed. The Ministry attributed
the drop to the high base number from last year, some countries' tightening of
investigation on foreign investment projects, and the global economic slowdown.
- Among the investments, $1.33 billion were invested in 47 "Belt & Road"
countries.
- Most of the investments went into traditional areas, including rental and
commercial services, manufacturing, wholesale, retail sales and construction.
Irrational investment has been effectively reined in, the Ministry said.
