Japan Apr Machine Orders -2.9% M/M

  • Japan's core machinery orders, excluding those for power generation equipment and ships, fell 2.9% m/m in April, offsetting the 2.9% growth made in March, posting the first monthly fall in three months.
  • Orders from manufacturing sectors, decreased 11.3% m/m, largely down from the increase of 19.4% m/m made in March.
  • Orders from the non-manufacturing sector, rose 5.9% m/m, up from the previous 11.3% m/m fall.
  • The outlook for the April-June period is for a decrease of 1.6%, compared with the 4.4% increase over the previous quarter.
