Japan Aug Machine Orders Down On Non-manufacturing; -5.8% M/M

  • Japan's core machinery orders, excluding those for power generation equipment and ships, fell 5.8% m/m in August, wiping off the previous 5.3% m/m growth, posting the first fall in three months.
  • Orders from non-manufacturing sectors, the main factor dragging down the index, plunged 21.4% m/m, largely down from last 15.1% m/m increase.
  • Orders from the manufacturing sector, increased 10.2% m/m, quickly up from 5.4% m/m decrease in July.
  • The outlook for the July-September period is for a fall of 1.8%, compared with the 8.1% increase over the previous quarter.
