Japan July CPI Stable; Energy Costs Ease

  • Japan's core consumer price index (excluding fresh food) remained stable in July and was unchanged from the previous month.
  • Overall CPI rose 0.3% y/y in July, quicker than the 0.1% y/y growth registered in June..
  • The underlying inflation rate, measured by the core-core CPI (excluding fresh food and energy) grew 0.4% y/y, the same rate as in June.
  • Energy costs fell 4.5% y/y from the 5.3% y/y drop in the previous month.
  • Prices for household durable goods rose 4.0% y/y in July, up from the previous 2.5% y/y increase.
  • Prices for food ex-perishables rose 1.0% y/y, following June's 1.2% increase.
