Japan Aug Household Spending Down 3.0% y/y, Reverses Gain

  • Spending on food fell 3.2% in August, after last month's 1.9% increase.
  • Spending on fuel, lighting and water declined 0.9% y/y, narrowing from last 5.9% fall in July.
  • The average real income of households with salaried workers increased 5.4% y/y in August, compared with 2.2% y/y decrease reported last month.
