Japan Nov Ind. Output -0.1% M/M; 3rd Monthly Drop

  • Japan's industrial production dropped for a third straight month by 0.1% m/m in November, led by machinery and electronic industries, due to the decreasing demands.
  • Shipments fell 0.5% m/m from last month, conveyors and copiers in the general-purpose and business-use machinery industry were the main factors to the decline.
  • Inventories rose for the first time in two months by 0.3% m/m. The petroleum and coal products industry made the largest contribution to the increase due the increasing exports and winter demands.
  • METI downgraded its assessment from "Although production is picking up moderately, weakness is seen in some areas" to "negative".
  • METI sees production rising 2.8% (revised up from 2.4%) in December before falling 0.6% in January.
