Japan Sep Exports +4.3% Y/Y; Imports -16.3% Y/Y

  • Japan's exports registered a 4.3% y/y increase in September, following the 0.8% y/y fall marked in August.
  • Imports fell 16.3% y/y in September, narrowing from the 17.7% y/y drop last month.
  • Trade balance in September was a surplus of Y62.44 billion, compared with the previous Y937.8 billion deficit.
  • Exports to the United States and the European Union rose 13.0% y/y and 12.9% y/y respectively, and to China decreased 6.2% y/y.
  • Imports from the United States and China decreased 12.3% and 5.0% respectively, and those from the EU fell 5.9%.
