Japan to apply to retain stakes in the 9.6mtpa Sakhalin-2 LNG project in Far East Russia

  • Russian had imposed a deadline of 31st Jul to notify of interest.
  • Ownership of Sakhalin-2 is transferring from the Bermuda registered entity to a new Russian registered one.
  • Foreign shareholders Shell, Mitsui and Mitsubishi had a month to notify the Russian government on whether they wanted to apply for respective stakes in the new company. Their decisions will be subject to approval by Russia.
