President Yoon Suk-yeol's office said in a statement that the South Korean leader and Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida will discuss ways to normalise bilateral diplomatic relations during their summit on Thursday.
- Yoon's National Security Adviser Kim Sung-han revealed that the President will meet with Kishida on the first day of his stay in Japan and the two will talk about the implementation of a compromise solution of the wartime labour dispute as well as ways to remove barriers hampering economic cooperation.
- Exchanging bilateral visits used to be a tradition of South Korean and Japanese leaders, but the last such trip to Japan by a South Korean leader was made by President Lee Myung-bak in 2011 before bilateral relations soured.
