Japanese Flows Light Around Obon

JAPAN

Japanese investors' net flows were a little more moderate in the most recent week, perhaps a result of lacklustre activity around the Obon holidays.

  • Japanese investors shed a net Y182.2bn worth of foreign bonds in the most recent week, after two consecutive weeks of decent enough purchases. Japanese investors shed a net Y1.8bn worth of foreign equities in the week, essentially flat, although this did represent a 6th consecutive week of net sales.
  • Foreign investors shed the largest net amount of Japanese bonds since late June in the most recent week (Y895.2bn). Foreign investors net purchases of Japanese equities ticked higher in the week, printing at Y371.0bn, representing a second straight week of net purchases.
