Japanese Utilities LNG Stocks Dip After Rise in April

LNG stockpiles held by Japanese utilities fell to 2.01m tons in the week to May 5 from 2.13m tons the previous week, according to data released by the trade ministry.

  • Volumes were 18.3% below last year’s levels of 2.46mn tons but similar to the previous five-year average in early May.
  • Japanese LNG storage had rebounded amid weak power demand in April and are likely to gain to around 2.3m tons in mid July as seen in the last couple of years just before the start of the cooling season, according to ICIS.
