Japan’s October LNG imports up 6.4% on Year

Japan imported 5.4m mt in October, up 6.4% on the year, according to Japan’s finance ministry data.

  • Russia supplied around 9.4% of Japan’s total LNG imports. Flows from Russia were at 0.5m, down 4.6% on October 2022.
  • Of the total, 568k mt came from the USA, up 175% on the year.
  • However, Japanese lifters are now being forced to look at alternative routes from the USA amid congestion and reduced slots at the Panama Canal for 2024 onwards,
