US DATA REACT: Jefferies economist Tom Simons said the initial weekly jobless
claims for the week of Oct. 14th "fell 22K to 222K from an upwardly revised 244K
last week. This is the lowest level of initial jobless claims since the week of
March 31st, 1973 (when it was also 222K, according to the Department of Labor).
- He added "the consensus call was for claims to fall to 240K. So, this week's
claims are well below expectations. Estimates were in a 235K to 255K range. The
4-week moving average fell to 248,250 from 257,750, hitting the lowest level
since the week of August 26th."
