Total demand for air cargo, measured in cargo tonne-kilometres (CTKs), rose 9.8% on the year in October, the 15th consecutive month of growth, according to IATA.

  • Capacity, measured in cargo tonne-kilometres (ACTKs), increased by 5.9% compared to October 2023.
  • Dedicated air freighter capacity rose 5.6%, the seventh consecutive month of growth, with volumes nearing 2021 peak levels.
  • APAC hold’s the largest share of air cargo by CTK at 33% and saw 13.4% growth on the year in October. Capacity in Asia rose 9.3% on the year.
  • The trade lane with the largest air cargo growth was within Europe, up 18%, although it constitutes just 1.9% of total cargo traffic.
  • The Asia-North America cargo lane remains the largest, at 25% of total traffic. It rose by 8.6% on the year in October.
  • Airlines are benefiting from rising e-commerce demand in the US and Europe amid ongoing capacity limits in ocean shipping.
