Johnson's Conservatives Losing Polling Lead On Economic Competence

With an escalating cost of living crisis in the UK set to be compounded over the coming months by a hike in the energy price cap and an increase to National Insurance contributions, opinion polling shows that Prime Minister Boris Johnson's Conservative party is losing its perception among the public for economic competence.

  • Labour have overtaken the Conservatives in both the view of which party would provide more jobs and which would keep prices down. The Conservatives historic domination of the 'managing the economy' polling point also is coming under risk, with the gap at just 6%, down from 18% in May 2021.
