Kashkari: Fed Shouldn't Overreact To Temporary Inflation (BBG)

FED

Minneapolis Fed President Kashkari ('23 voter, dove) underscored his dovish views via comments given to BBG television. Kashkari noted that the Fed should not overreact to what he deemed "likely to be temporary" factors re: inflation, as he pointed to stable long-term expectations. Kashkari stressed that the Fed will never allow inflation expectations to become unanchored, with the central bank having the ability to adjust its policy settings to achieve its dual mandate. On the dual mandate, he pointed to millions of jobless individuals as a key consideration (downplaying the need to fight inflation in isolation), while noting that COVID remains the biggest issue facing the U.S. economy.
