Kazakhstan’s Shymkent Oil Refinery Begins Production Restart

Kazakhstan’s Shymkent refinery has completed scheduled maintenance work at its primary oil refining complex, according to Bloomberg citing the KazMunayGas press service.

  • The works took place between March 25-April 23.
  • "A technical examination of equipment and an industrial safety examination were conducted on 227 pressure vessels, 12 process furnaces, and 54 process pipelines. (...) The plant has begun start-up procedures," the statement quoted by Bloomberg said.
  • Shymkent is one of the three major refineries in Kazakhstan, along with Pavlodar, and Atyrau.
  • Kazakhstan wants to double the capacity of the Shymkent refinery from 6m to 12m mtpa by 2029.
