Kılıçdaroğlu Accuses Russia Of Interfering In Turkish Election

TURKEY

Turkish opposition candidate for the presidency, Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu, has issued a statement on twitter accusing Russia of attempting to influence the outcome of the May 14 Turkish general election by disseminating disinformation.

  • Kılıçdaroğlu tweeted (in translation): "Dear Russian Friends, You are behind the montages, conspiracies, Deep Fake content and tapes that were exposed in this country yesterday. If you want the continuation of our friendship after May 15, get your hands off the Turkish state. We are still in favor of cooperation and friendship."
  • Kılıçdaroğlu followed the tweet with a version translated into Russian.
  • The final poll released by polling firm Konda before the pre-election blackout shows Kilicdaroglu (49.3%) with a marginal lead over incumbent President Recep Erdogan (43.7%) with 50% required to prevent the ballot going to a second round runoff.
